Staff
at Village Hall are eager to assist all residents and work under the
direction of Deputy Clerk Frances Richard-Bey.
Water/Sewer/Sanitation
Water and Sewer charges are
based on actual gallons used. Bills are sent bi-monthly and are due within 15
days of billing. Bills paid after the due date are subject to a 10% penalty.
New residents are required to pay a Security Deposit of $75.00 for service,
which is returned to the resident after two years of on-time payments.
Sanitation/Refuse charges
are billed on the water bill and are set by contract with the waste hauler. All
refuse must be in the receptacle provided by the Village. Recycling is part of
the program and can be set in the blue bin provided by the village. Yard waste
is to be placed in a biodegradable bag or covered container marked "Yard
Waste". You may also set out up to three large items per week. All trash,
recyclable, and yard waste are pickup up on you regularly scheduled day.

Payment Options
The Village of Riverdale accepts cash, check, money order and all major
credit/debit cards when paying in person. Due to cooperation with the
State Treasurer's office of the State of Illinois, we also allow for credit card
payments (Discover, MasterCard and debit cards only) on line by logging onto
www.illinoisepay.com and using the Village's jurisdiction code number 1006.
We also
offer direct debit payment options for payment of utility bills. Please
contact our office by phone, 708-841-2200, for applications or use the
"Feedback" button on the left to e-mail a request to me.
Vehicle
License Renewals
If you own a motor vehicle, you
must purchase a Riverdale vehicle tag. Vehicle tag sales begin May 1 and must
be displayed by July 1 of each year. Current rates for vehicle tags are
$30.00
for passenger cars and light trucks and increase depending on the type of
license plate. Age 65 or older or disabled? You are eligible for one tag per
household at a reduced rate of $7.00. Proof of SSI payment required. Buy your tags early to avoid penalties.
On July 1, all fees are doubled.

Pet Tags
All cats and dogs in the village
must be registered. The tags are valid from January 1 through December 31 of
each year. Proof of current rabies vaccination and residency is required. The rate for
each tag is $8.00 and there is a three pet limit per household.

Garage Sale Permits
Before planning your garage
or yard sale, check with the village to get your permit. Permits are $10.00 and
allow for one rain date. There is a limit on the number of sales per
year.

Block Clubs and Party Permits
The Village of
Riverdale encourages all residents to become involved in your neighborhoods by
forming a Block Club. If you have not already formed your Block Club,
contact the Riverdale Resource Center (841-7054) to find out more information,
or stop by the Village Hall to obtain information.

Notary Service
Notary Service is
provided by the staff at Village Hall. Just stop by with your document. There is no
charge for notary service.

Voter
registration is available at Village Hall. Just bring 2 forms of identification with you
when you apply. Remember, voting is your right!

Freedom of Information
Requests
The business of the village
is your business and all documents of the village are subject to review by the
public as provided by Illinois State Statute. You may request information under
the Freedom of Information Act - applications are available at Village Hall.

Business Licensing
Before opening any business
(commercial or in-home), including vending/amusement devices, you must be
licensed. There are various categories and fees. Before any new license is
issued, inspections must be completed and final approval is given by the Building and Zoning Department.

Permits
are required for any home or business improvement. All permits are
obtained at Village Hall.

Passport Application
Acceptance
The Village of Riverdale has
been designated as an official U.S. Department of State Passport Acceptance
Agent. Bring your photos, proof of citizenship and proper identification during
regular business hours. Normal application fee is $100.00 and the processing
time is 6-8 weeks.

Meeting
Schedules
All meetings of Village officials are open to
the public and governed by the Open Meetings Act. Regular Village Board
Meetings are conducted at Village Hall, 157 W. 144th Street, unless otherwise
indicated.
Commissions and Committees

Various Commission
and Committees have been established by ordinance to advise the Mayor and Board
of Trustees. These commissions are comprised of residents interested in
taking an active role in the governing process of their village. These
volunteers serve for various terms and are appointed by the Mayor with the
advice and consent of the Trustees. Individuals interested in
serving are invited to send a resume and letter to Mayor Zenovia G. Evans in care of the Village Hall. The
following commissions are active in the village:

Zoning Board of Appeals
The Zoning Board is comprised of
seven members who hear petitions for changes or modifications of the zoning code
for the village. They meet on the second Thursday of the month.

Civil Service Commission
The Civil Service Commission
is comprised of three members who are charged with recruiting, testing, and
hiring employees for the village.
Fire & Police Commission
The Fire and Police
Commission is comprised of three members who are charged with recruiting,
testing, and hiring Fire and Police officers for the village.
Housing Authority of Riverdale
The Housing Authority of Riverdale meets
monthly on the second Thursday. The five members consider housing issues,
including Fair Housing, in the village. They meet on the second Thursday of each
month.
Quality of Life Committee
The Quality of Life
Committee was created as an Ad Hoc committee of the Housing Authority.
This committee is responsible for greeting new residents and answering question
about life in Riverdale. This committee is looking for volunteers to
assist them. They meet on the first Monday of each month at Village Hall.
Tree Commission
The Tree Commission was established to watch
over Riverdale's Urban Forest. They meet monthly and plan activities that
raise awareness of trees, and our annual Arbor Day Ceremony. The Village
of Riverdale has qualified as Tree City USA for multiple years and was
awarded Growth Award for 2002.
